PRESS RELEASE

“Strengthen the sense of family and Academic Ties at STIE Widya Wiwaha”

Yogyakarta, August 1, 2025 — In an effort to foster togetherness, embrace the Qur’anic spirit, and strengthen bonds among lecturers and staff, STIE Widya Wiwaha held a Sima’an Al-Qur’an event involving students, lecturers, and other members of the academic community. This event served as a spiritual and social moment that brought a peaceful and meaningful atmosphere amidst academic routines.

The sima’an took place at the STIE Widya Wiwaha campus in a simple yet solemn format: Gus Umam recited verses from the Holy Qur’an while other participants listened attentively. Beyond merely listening to the Qur’an, the event also became a shared learning space, where participants helped each other improve their recitation and fostered closer relationships.

Sima’an: Not Just Listening, But Reviving the Heart

Sima’an Al-Qur’an is derived from the word sama’a, meaning “to hear.” However, in this context, it goes beyond ordinary listening. It is about listening with the heart, with the intention of drawing closer to Allah SWT. As the Qur’an states:

“So when the Qur’an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy.” (Surah Al-A’raf: 204)

Events like this are vital spiritual reminders in the face of the digital era’s distractions. Many of us are caught up with assignments, organizations, or even social media. Through sima’an, we are encouraged to take time to reflect, reconnect with the Qur’an, and renew our spiritual bond.

Direct Benefits for the Youth

According to the event committee, the sima’an provided numerous benefits, especially for young people:

  • Fostering love for the Qur’an: Listening to peers recite can be a powerful motivation to learn and memorize the Qur’an.

  • Training focus and inner calm: Listening to Qur’anic recitation helps develop concentration and a sense of peace.

  • Becoming a moment for self-reflection: Each verse recited can serve as a mirror to improve our character and way of life.

  • Building mutual support among friends: When one recites and others listen and gently offer corrections, it nurtures a healthy and supportive learning environment.

Closing

The Sima’an Al-Qur’an activity at STIE Widya Wiwaha is more than just a religious gathering—it is a symbol that brotherhood, academic kinship, and the Qur’anic spirit can flourish within an academic setting. Young people and students, as the nation's future leaders, should be equipped not only with worldly knowledge but also with strong spiritual foundations.

Let us uphold the Qur’anic spirit. For from a calm heart, great achievements and noble work will be born.
